An open Bible on grass in a sunny autumn meadow surrounded by vibrant fall foliage daily devotion

It’s your daily devotion, and our Thursday thoughts continue in 1 John 3. In the first few verses of this chapter, John confirms God’s love for you, as well as your sonship. He proclaims that our future hope brings further revelation and manifestation. In verses 4-6, John affirms that our sonship denies a life of sin.

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

In today’s daily devotion, thank God that you abide in Christ.

As a son of God, you’re not a lawbreaker. You’re not a transgressor of God’s law, but an upholder of it. The law is the full counsel of God’s word. Jesus didn’t come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it. We’ve been released from the law in a legalistic sense and made alive to the spirit of the law.  In Jeremiah 31:33, God says that under the new covenant, His word is written in our hearts.

Disobedience to God’s divine law is sin. We’ve been delivered from sin; therefore, we don’t walk in it. Praise God, in today’s daily devotion, that you’re not a transgressor.

He Takes Away Sin

Jesus came into the world to take away sin. He came to destroy the works of the devil. When Jesus was on the cross, He bore mankind’s sin in His body. God laid on Him the sins of the world. Isaiah 53:5 says, “He was wounded for our transgressions.” Christ had no sins of His own, but His life was offered as a sacrifice for our sins. In your daily devotion, thank God that Christ redeemed you from sin.

Abiding in Him

When you abide in Christ, you don’t desire to live a life of sin. You consciously live to please the Father. When you abide in Him, you’re renewing your mind daily to the things of God. You have an enemy who wants to interrupt your abiding, so he’ll try to tempt you with worldly things or bombard you with wrong thoughts that could take you outside of Christ.

In your daily devotion, declare your authority in Christ, stand in God’s armor, and put the enemy on the run.

Sinneth Not

Romans 8:1 says, You are not under condemnation when you’re in Christ. If you make a mistake, repent, get up, and continue in the Lord. God promises to forgive you when you confess your sins, so let no man condemn you. However, you reject living a sinful lifestyle. You are free from sin. In today’s daily devotion, praise God that you walk in the freedom that Jesus Christ has given you.

Those who live in sin and disobedience prove they don’t know Him. Unlike John, they don’t have a revelation of God’s love. Even after you’re born again, you must choose daily not to live in sin. You must feed your spirit so that you become less carnal and more like Christ. As Prophet Nancy Dufresne says, you must be interested in the things of God. And you must pursue them.

In your daily devotion, know that the more you develop your faith, the more you will know Him.

Final Word

In your Thursday daily devotion, you undoubtedly know that you have been redeemed from sin and have a new life abiding in Christ. You are no longer bound to sin, and you can resist the enemy who tries to pull you back to a life of transgression against God’s word. In the Gospel of John, he says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

In your daily devotion, say out loud that Christ has taken away your sin, you abide in Him, and you sin not.
