It’s Wednesday’s daily devotion. Let’s seek God’s wisdom today. The idea of sonship is prevalent throughout 1 John. John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, proclaimed God as his Father, and he was filled with His love. The word love appears forty-six times in 1 John. In 1 John 3:2-3, John declares the following:
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
In today’s daily devotion, confess that you’re now a son and you will be like Christ.
Now Sons

Once you’re born again, you become a son of God. You don’t have to go through a trial or initiation period. You become at that moment a son of God. Romans 8:15 declares that you can now cry, Abba! Father!” because the Spirit bears witness with your spirit that you’re a son of God. You’ve become an heir of God and a joint heir of Jesus Christ.
Praise God, in your daily devotion, that your sonship is secure. You are a son of God right now.
Does Not Appear
Although you are a son of God, the full glory of that sonship doesn’t appear in this life. It’s reserved for a future time. While you are here, you must trust God and walk by faith as you develop and grow spiritually. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:9 that “we know in part”; in verse 12, he says, “we see through a glass darkly.” As a son of God, you have a glorious day to look forward to.
In today’s daily devotion, thank God for the learning stages. You’re preparing for what doesn’t appear right now.
What We Shall Be
Romans 8:19 states, “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.” Your sonship has yet to be manifested fully. In this life, you may struggle and groan, but you live in great expectation that at Christ’s return, your sonship will be perfected. In your daily devotion, rejoice that the day is coming when you will be free of struggle. What you’re waiting for will arrive.
He Shall Appear
What a confident statement John makes: “When He shall appear.” John was there on Mt. Olivet when Jesus ascended to Heaven, and two angels appeared, saying He would return in like manner. But until that time, you have work to do. Jesus commissioned His disciples to wait for the Holy Ghost, who would empower them to carry on His works.
In today’s daily devotion, as you continue working in the kingdom, rejoice in knowing that Jesus shall descend one day just as He ascended in Acts 1:9.
Be Like Him

Paul says in Philippians 3:21 that Christ “shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body.” When He appeared to His disciples after His resurrection, He came into their midst while the doors were shut. He was unhindered by physical barriers, and His body was not subject to human frailties. While we’re in our first stage of sonship, we are subjected to these things.
However, then we shall be like Him. Rejoice in the Lord, in Wednesday’s daily devotion, that one day, you will be like Him.
We Have Hope
Your hope is firm and secure. 1 Peter 1:3 calls it a “lively hope.” In other words, you have a living hope that’s constant, abiding, and true. Because of your faith, you can live in holiness or purity, as He is pure. In John 14:3, Jesus said, “I will come again, and receive you unto myself.” What Jesus testifies of Himself is true. He will come again.
In your daily devotion, praise God that you have hope in His word.
Final Word
In your daily devotion, you can rejoice because of the hope you have in Christ. Paul says in Romans 8:14, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” However, the full manifestation of your sonship hasn’t been fully revealed. In the meantime, work while it’s day because one day, He shall appear, and you shall be like Him.
