Kyrie Gets Canceled
The contract between the two parties was terminated in 2022. What did he do to make this happen you ask? The company cut ties with the guard after he made a specific Twitter post. The post was a video with a link to a documentary that had antisemitic messages.
If you thought that was bad, it gets worse. How could it possibly be worse than showing prejudice to a certain group of people? When confronted, the Brooklyn guard refused to give an apology! He did delete the tweet, thankfully. As adults we all make mistakes, and we know that is okay. A simple apology could have gone a long way with this one. Due to this, Nike canceled the Kyrie 8 launch.
Nike Kyrie Makes a Comeback
It didn\’t take long for Anta to pick him up after the Nike drop. The China-based company even made him the Chief Creative Officer of the company. Kyrie and other players have been seen wearing the new Anta shoes. The first release was recent, in May of 2024. Many thought Kyrie had been wearing moccasins on the court. However, it is his new design. He was aiming for comfortability as well as flexibility when making quick moves on the court.
The shoe honors his Native American heritage with dark tones and even a little fringe. Each shoe from the collection has a piece of Kyrie\’s journey embezzled somewhere in the design. The shoes are priced right around $125 which makes them cheaper than the Nike collection which sat around $140. Check out all the designs available for purchase already.
