This is a photograph of cookies shaped like bats and pumpkins. Themed snacks can add to the fun of a movie night.

Perhaps you are having a festival of spooky films in your home. After all, Halloween will be here soon. Or you may have an evening planned to introduce one particular Halloween favorite. Someone important in your life may not have seen a movie you treasure. As you prepare for this evening, you may wonder what food to provide. Imaginative snacks can make this movie night epic. Making a snack assortment referencing characters or ideas from your chosen film(s) can be fun, and so can providing an array of items that all relate to a general Halloween theme. Having delicious snacks available is always thoughtful when having a party. Adding festive, spooky flair to your snack offerings is even more thoughtful.

Pairing Snacks with Movies

A Halloween-related movie night could feature Hocus Pocus and/or its sequel. It could also be an opportunity to watch one or more of the Ghostbusters movies. Your movie screening can be a party with a crowd of people. It can also just be you and your family or roommates. Whatever you choose to do, snacks can take this gathering to the next level. Amaze your fellow film enthusiasts with adorable movie/snack pairings.

PlanetBox offers suggestions for snacks that can be paired with a viewing of Hocus Pocus. Potion Pasta is one item PlanetBox suggests. This pasta gives the appearance of a potion by incorporating three different colors of pasta strands. Each color of pasta can be made separately. Separate your pasta into three different containers. Apply a different color of food coloring to each container so that there are three pasta colors. Combine the pasta into one container.  Then, incorporate any other ingredients you like. PlanetBox recommends: “Top with carrot stars and any of your favorite pasta salad toppings.”

PlanetBox also has snack ideas for a Ghostbusters gathering. Green slime and the character of Slimer can inspire movie tie-in snacks. Add green food coloring to turn grilled cheese into Green Slime Grilled Cheese. Make a mini-Slimer out of green Jell-O and candy eyes. The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man can also be featured in the fun. Throw marshmallows into a festive trail mix recipe. PlanetBox suggests: “Combine your favorite cereal or granola with mini marshmallows and red candies.”

An Assortment of Snacks for a Halloween Theme

There can also be snacks that nod more generally to Halloween. Food items do not need to tie directly to the movies you watch. Snack options shaped like pumpkins, for instance, can be cute. Food Network provides a recipe for pumpkin-shaped pretzel desserts. To make these, melt orange candy wafers. Then, use the melted candy to coat pretzel twists and create little pumpkins. For pumpkin stems, use green sour candy. Food Network states: “These adorable pretzel pumpkins are… perfect… for Halloween or any fall festivity.”

Additionally, as seen with the Ghostbusters snacks, snack items in ghost shapes can be fun. Food Network, for instance, offers a recipe for hand pies shaped like ghosts. These hand pies can be paired with a honey Dijon dip. They have fillings featuring cheese and ham. Their outsides are made of puff pastry. Food Network suggests these “spooky little treats” to serve to Halloween party guests.

Movie Night Snack Overview

You are planning your spooky movie viewing evening. You have figured out what to watch. This is great. The movie or movies will provide focus for your gathering. What to serve as snack accompaniments is also good to think about. Having festive and tasty items to munch on can add excitement to your gathering. These items can be connected in theme to your film choice(s). However, they do not have to be. Cute snacks generally inspired by Halloween are also wonderful.
