Let’s Get Physical: Easy Workouts You Can Do At Your Desk

Who knew that working in an office could feel like a box prison? Unlike workouts at the gym, you don’t get much satisfaction after a long day of paper-pushing.

Let’s face it, working a job can be soul-crushing. All day, You want to walk to ease the tension in your legs from sitting down, but you have to prepare for a meeting. Your eyes ache from staring at a computer screen and you want to do something else other than write another word on another spreadsheet.

Not to mention, the boredom of it all. Hours of doing tasks in one place can break your mind, body, and spirit but fortunately, there’s an easy way to work around that. So how do you keep your body healthy and, even more importantly, your mind’s sanity?

Simply put, office workouts are your answer.

By doing workouts at your desk, you remain active and energized throughout the day. Additionally, you can relax your mind while your body receives energy and a much-needed distraction from the monotony that comes with a desk job.

Now, you may be asking, “Well, what workouts can I do? I didn’t bring any gym equipment with me.” Well, I have an answer for you. Dumbbells and fancy machines aren’t needed for your workouts to work out.

In fact, you have the equipment you’ll need for your workouts in your office. Basic exercises such as push-ups and squats don’t require anything except space and commitment. And if you put your mind to it, you can use what you have to come up with small innovative workouts on your own.

Turning the Office into Your Personal Gym

The desk itself is great for your workouts as it can be a base. Thereby, you can do push-ups to improve your chest and biceps. Similarly, planks can help strengthen your shoulders, while you use your desk to keep balance.

And don’t forget about the chair you’re sitting on. You can use the chair for your workouts as it can be a base too, especially if you want a lower base other than your desk. If needed, the chair is light enough for you to move around, which allows your workouts to be more free and creative.

Furthermore, there are other exercises the chair is useful for. Pistol squats are perfect as you can use the chair to keep your balance as this exercise requires you to stand and sit repeatedly.

Another exercise that you can do with a chair is step-ups. By pushing down on the chair with one leg, you can step up and back down repeatedly, which helps to keep your legs from stiffening.

The Body Workouts with the Body Itself

Let’s say you don’t have a desk or a chair to do these small workouts. Or, you may be worried about breaking your desk and chair and having to explain what happened at the next meeting. Don’t fret; there are still things you can use as workout equipment.

You can use the walls in your workouts for push-ups and planks as well. Likewise, add wall sits to your workouts and feel the burn. By using the wall to keep balance, you “sit” with your knees and hips bent for a period of time to keep your quads and hamstrings conditioned.

Lastly, even with adding office furniture for your workouts, you still have the most important resource to work with. Yourself.

Your workouts don’t need gym equipment to be accomplished. All you need is your body to do the exercise and your mind to push you to action. So take a walk from time to time, and if you can’t do that, move around your small office. Remember, you may have to sit behind a desk all day but that doesn’t mean you’re chained to it.
