New Year, New You, Why Fad Diets Are Not the Answer to Weight Loss

Now that January has begun, fad diets and gym memberships are skyrocketing. When it’s a brand new year, people do the old saying, ” New Year, New You, and starting a new diet.”  This New Year resolution is not sustainable and never works. The average annual retention rate for health clubs is around 71.4%, meaning about 28.6% of members leave annually. 67% of gym members never use their membership, and about 30% of gym-goers quit within the first month.

Fad Diets also come into play starting the New Year. Fad diets initially seem good for losing weight, but often, people tend to regain the weight and add on more weight. According to the CDC, fad diets are not recommended because they leave out food groups the body needs. It is healthier to start a lifestyle change by eating all foods, eating nutritious foods, having treats in moderation, and adding more activity to your life.

Fad Diets are popular for people when starting the New Year because everyone else is doing a diet to lose weight. Fad diets are not the answer to losing weight. With diet, exercise, and your body type, the art of losing weight was cracked a long time ago. Eating the correct foods in your diet and adding activity to your day will help you sustain a healthy lifestyle, lose weight, build muscle, and enjoy life.

These diets often tend to cut out foods and deprive the body of nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, which can lead to other health problems. Fad diets can also slow the metabolism and cause dehydration, muscle loss, a higher risk of heart disease, and electrolyte imbalances. Eating vegetables, fruits, and superfoods, such as avocado, fish, poultry, and lean meats, will help the body. Everyone feels carbohydrates are the enemy and tends to feel that is what gains weight. Wrong.

Carbohydrates fuel the body to keep you going. Protein helps the body build new cells, and fats help absorb nutrients. Staying active every day will help you sustain a healthy weight, and it is easier than most people think; walking 10,000 steps a day helps with cardiovascular health, or simply setting aside 30 minutes a day to be active will help the body burn fat, build muscle, and stay healthy.

Final Thoughts

It’s 2025, and the New Year has begun. Start living life to the fullest by having a healthier lifestyle instead of making diet and exercise a chore. Eating foods in moderation and adding activity to the day will help you lose weight and maintain a healthy weight. Fad Diets are the enemy of the body and will only cause more harm than good. No one wants more health problems or any health problems.

Stick with the science of diet and exercise changes by making better choices throughout the day and exercising 30 minutes a day, even if it’s walking in the park or walking your dog. Every bit of movement helps. Therefore, things to remember, fad diets will only hurt the body and cause more health issues. Changing your lifestyle to help you maintain a healthy weight is not difficult. A healthy eating plan will help you feel better and give you more energy.
