Which Cat Breeds Are the Meanest?

Many cat breeds temperaments may differ, but felines funny personalities and independent nature are what draw people in and make them some of the most popular pets among families everywhere. It\’s hard to resist them, especially when they\’re babies. Walking into a pet store that has them is even worse because you\’ll be tempted to bring one home.

As hard as it is, sometimes you must ignore the temptation without careful consideration. Deciding the breed that best fits your family before adopting it is essential. Doing your research on personality is critical. Need help deciding? Here are the three meanest cat breeds for you to choose from or avoid.

The Royal Cat Breed: Siamese

Dating back to the late 19th century, the Siamese symbolize wealth and royalty. Their striking blue eyes and bi-color markings give them uncanny beauty, which has given them a reputation as one of the most attractive cat breeds in the world. They\’re a high-energy kitty that craves attention and is easily trainable. Similar to a guard dog, this cat is protective of its surroundings and the people in them.

Due to their loyalty, Siamese make fantastic family pets but do not shake up their environment. They tend to fear change and new people, so some owners perceive them as being aloof. For example, if they\’re thrust into a new situation or environment, they\’ll hide until they feel comfortable. But don\’t let their skittish behavior fool you, as they prefer spending time with their humans over anything.

Even so, ensure that you understand that this breed craves attention and will likely act out much like a child who doesn\’t get their way. Instead of throwing a fit, however, they\’ll take it out on you in other ways. Experts say their problematic behavior may not be intentional, as it could be the result of an eye condition that causes rapid movements. This condition makes the cat see things differently, so perhaps they\’re not the meanest breed and are just misunderstood.

The Rarest Breed of Them All: Sphynx

The Sphynx, known as the world\’s hairless cat, is adorable and spunky. Like the Siamese, it is a curious, high-energy breed that quickly gets bored. This boredom and curiosity can get them in trouble, causing them to sometimes release their pent-up energy on your belongings. So, ensure you have plenty of toys and things to entertain this intelligent kitty cat.

You might even say they\’re too smart for their own good. Their high intelligence also leads to close bonds with humans. Unlike the Siamese, the Sphynx is a people-pleaser, meaning it doesn\’t have a favorite person. On the contrary, this cat can have a bit of a jealous streak, but only with other animals.

For instance, if you bring another cat or dog into your home, be prepared to introduce them slowly. This animal will be territorial and even indifferent to new furry family members. This is how they\’ve gained a reputation for being mean. Is it possible that they just might be misunderstood? You be the judge.

The Bombay: Friend or Foe?

The Bombay is the most independent of all cat breeds and, therefore, is often considered one of the meanest. Its striking resemblance to a black panther makes it a highly sought-after breed. This cat is an excellent addition to any family because it quickly makes friends and is very loving. They crave attention, so shower them with as much love as you can, and don\’t forget to provide plenty of exercise.

So, why do people consider the Bombay among the meanest cat breeds? Their constant cry for attention is sometimes considered mean, especially if they respond to being ignored. They love a routine, so don\’t be inconsistent with attention because they won\’t hesitate to tell you about it.

Don\’t be surprised by over-vocalization or if they pretend you don\’t exist. Other personality traits include being bossy and loving to be in charge of their furry siblings. Because of this, they\’ve earned the reputation of being head honchos. Some may consider this mean, but remember, it\’s just part of who they are.

Final Thoughts

It\’s essential to research cats with high-strung personality traits before adding certain breeds to your home. The best thing to do is to weigh the good and bad traits to determine which kind of cat is right for you. The same can be said for owning any pet, but cats seem to be in a class of their own. Do you or anyone you know own one of the breeds mentioned? If so, do you feel they are among the meanest cat breeds?
